R CLIPS / RETAINING CLIPS

Our metric Steel Retaining Clips are suitable for use with Clevis Pins.  We sell R Pins in diameters from 2mm to 6mm, see below.  Clips are available to buy in packs of 10, 25 & 50.  Discounts are available on bulk orders, see product pages for further details.  Please note, Retaining Clips are sometimes referred to as Retaining Pins.  They are often used with clevis pins, inserted through the shaft, to keep the pin secure and in place.

Our Metric Retaining Clip sizes are:

  • 2mm x 43mm - (pin diameter x total length)
  • 3mm x 54mm
  • 4mm x 75mm
  • 5mm x 105mm
  • 6mm x 115mm

HOW THE R CLIP WORKS

The straight leg of the R-clip is inserted into the hole of the shaft until the semicircular arch on the other leg of the clip securely grips and holds the side of the shaft securely fastening the clip in place.  This structural shape prevents the clip from being removed from the hole.  See diagram below.

To assist secure fastening the bent leg is angled away from the straight leg whereby the angled leg grips the side of the shaft and opens the mouth of the clip just enough to pass the widest part of the shaft during insertion.  R-clips serve a similar function to both split pins and linchpins, however compared to split pins they are easier to remove and can be re-used.


BRAKE PAD RETAINING PINS

We stock both small (4-5mm), and large (5-7mm) brake retaining pins.  These clips are suitable for use on brake pad retaining pins.
